MV Human Foot Bones Medical Skeletal 3D Cross Section
The human foot consists of 26 bones divided into three main groups:
- Tarsal Bones (7):
- Calcaneus: The heel bone, largest of the tarsals.
- Talus: Sits above the calcaneus and forms the ankle joint.
- Navicular: Located in front of the talus.
- Cuboid: Positioned on the outer side of the foot.
- Cuneiforms (3): Medial, intermediate, and lateral cuneiforms, located in front of the navicular.
- Metatarsal Bones (5): These are the long bones in the middle of the foot, numbered 1 to 5 from the big toe to the little toe.
- Phalanges (14): The bones of the toes. Each toe has three phalanges (proximal, middle, and distal), except for the big toe, which has only two (proximal and distal).
Together, these bones provide structural support, facilitate movement, and help absorb shock during activities like walking and running. The foot also contains numerous joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments that contribute to its complex function.
